Title

FCC Request for Location Change, WJLD

Description

Box 6 Folder 11: "Ok, folder 11 is part of an FCC request changing the location of the station from Homewood to Fairfield, at the Garrison, and the antennae is now moved from… the transmitter location is now at Garrison Avenue which is where it currently is. Ok, let’s pause for a sec…. We’re continuing with this. The station, WJLD was located at this time, the studios, at 109 North 19th Street. They are now moving the tower, which was originally on Red Mountain at this time as well, to Garrison Avenue. So the transmitter location is changing, and therefore… and the antennae is therefore being moved, but at this very moment it is not clear that the studio is being moved at all. The studio is still at 109 North 19th Street. That’s what this does, and accompanying this is a broadcast map showing the difference in 25 millivolt contours by virtue of the move, so the strength now moves to the west which would have been an appropriate thing to do since there were more African Americans in that area I think. Ok, it might be. City of license will change from Homewood to Fairfield. From the WJLD files."
