Building Description, WENN

Description

Box 4 Folder 10: "Folder number 10, folder number 10 is a description of… this would be a description of the lot that WENN AM was at. The building was completed and occupied in January of 1961; this is a document from the… well the document goes back to 1960 because at that point the land was vacant, but the building was completed in 1961. This was originally at the tax assessor’s office, eventually ending up at the Birmingham library archives. Also in Folder 10 are two pictures taken on October 11, 1961 of WENN 1320 on the corner of 15th Street North and 5th Avenue North. Beautiful, beautiful picture. Now, that building, no longer extant, is part of Jim Burke’s parking lot. Originally called the Afton Lee building. Lee was an African American real estate owner based out of Homewood, actually Rosedale. That picture was received from the archives at the library from the collection from the tax assessor’s office that was transferred to the archives. In the folder there is one 8x10 and two 3x5s. We scanned the 3x5 for the archive."
