Title

Clipping, "Radio, female variety"

Description

Box 3 Folder 41: "We’re now at folder 41 from 1958 which has an article “The new radio station for Bessemer application for which was duly posted in the news. It’s going to be a truly new sound in radio if the federal communication okays the station. This will be an all girls radio station similar to WHER in Memphis.” And the applicant for the station of 1000 watts at 50 kilocycles is James Connelly, used to be the manager… was the manager at this time of WJLD. “Connolly has applied for the call letters WSHE.” Would have been 1550 AM but never came to pass, but Jim was, as we know from seeing him as a manager, a salesperson, all that, and knew the ins and outs of radio, ...taking a shot at ownership. Made a copy of the Bham News article found at the Main Library in Birmingham."
