Introducing WBCO Personnel and Featured Stars, Birmingham Weekly Review
Description
Box 2 Folder 38: "Ok, this is folder 38 and we’re looking at a large Xerox of the front page of the Birmingham Weekly Review, a black-owned newspaper by publisher Robert Durr, from August 16, 1952, which features the staff of WBCO in Bessemer when it was still in the city limits. In the downtown area of Bessemer. It’s a great front page. We have the rest of the paper that features stories about these folks in the archives already, in a larger box we haven’t done yet. The original of this was donated by Lora Walker. That was actually her maiden name. I don’t remember her married name, although it is also in a later file. (Lora Gary). We have a promo card of her from WJLD. Her mother laminated the newpaper and she brought it in. It was a great gift because it describes the staff and also some of the visitors to WBCO in downtown Birmingham. When you read Editor Robert Durr's international analysis, you realize how little has changed in the world."
