Clippings, WJLD Programming

Title

Clippings, WJLD Programming

Description

Box 1 Folder 26: "Next is box 1 number 26, which contains various New Age Herald clipping copies from 1945 describing radio programming of the period including WJLD. The significance here was the 5:45 mention of "WJLD Black & Tan fantasy will feature sepia stylists in a quarter hour of syncopation" in other words black programming on the station during that period which was 1945 (no exact date). Also the radio log (March 31 - April 1) showing on WJLD St. Peters Baptist Church with Rev. W.A. Clark and at that time there were 4 radio stations broadcasting: API, BRC, SGN, and WJLD and this was in March of 1945. And also from March 26, 1945 an announcement of Fulton Lewis Jr. having programming on WJLD whom I believe was a white broadcaster, a network broadcaster. From the Birmingham Library archives microfiche."
